Are Vietnamese users being offered iPhones at "bloody" prices in exchange for an increasingly strict after-sales system and more susceptible to warranty denial than ever before?
The Apple market in Vietnam is experiencing an extremely special paradox. iPhone VN/A prices are sometimes lower than those in the US, Singapore or Thailand, but along with that is a wave of feedback about more difficult warranties, stricter inspection processes and higher rejection rates.
This caused the community to start asking many questions
• Apple is tightening its grip on the Vietnamese market
• Dealer sells cheap in exchange for cutting off warranty benefits
• Or the whole low price war is actually making users "pay the price" at the after-sales stage
A PANEL OF THE APPLE CHEAP PRICE WAR IN VIETNAM
From 2023, the Vietnamese market will enter an unprecedented price reduction war
• Mobile World
• FPT Shop
• CellphoneS
• Viet Mobile
Many iPhone models are sold lower than the carry-on price in Singapore and the US after tax conversion.
Actual price structure comparison table
Factors Vietnam VN/A US LL/A Singapore ZP/A
Tax in the selling price Includes VAT 10% Does not include sales tax Includes GST
Dealer profit margin Extremely low Stable Average high
Competition level Very fierce Tight control Stable
Actual selling price Sometimes cheapest in the area Cheap in duty-free states Often higher than Vietnam
Worthwhile pointMost notable is that Apple almost does NOT offer direct discounts to Vietnam. Cheap prices come from dealers sacrificing profits to gain market share.
There was a time when some systems accepted to sell close to cost price just to attract customers into the retail ecosystem
IS THE HYPOTHESIS "CUTTING THE WARRANTY TO REDUCE THE PRICE" TRUE?
Analysis of the legal structure shows that this hypothesis is almost incorrect.
The Apple warranty system in Vietnam is actually still part of Apple's global management network and coordinated by Apple South Asia Pte. Ltd in Singapore.
This makes sense
• Vietnamese dealers do NOT shoulder the warranty costs themselves
• There is NO right to cut AppleCare benefits
• You can NOT arbitrarily replace components outside the system
All components such as Face ID, screen, battery, camera must be authenticated through Apple's global server.
If the components are not serially synchronized, the system will detect it immediately
WHY APPLE IN VIETNAM IS INCREASINGLY "DIFFICULT TO WARRANTY"
This is the most controversial part.
According to many feedback from users and the technical community, Apple has tightened it extremely strongly after a period of many forms of "warranty profiteering".
Formerly popular forms
• Swap the original parts and then exchange the machine
• Create a simulation error to change the entire cluster
• Interfere with the main board and then request warranty
• Using fake receipts for laptops
As a result, Apple switched to an almost "zero trust" inspection model.
Inspection policy change table
Characteristics Phase
Before 2022 Testing is relatively flexible
2023 to present Scan the serial number of each component
Currently, centralized inspection and confidentialityt high
Many AASP centers are currently only initial reception sites.
The final decision belongs to the in-depth inspection system of Apple Vietnam or Apple South Asia
WHAT MAKES USERS MOST IMPRESSIVE
Not just because the warranty was denied.
It's because the reason for the return is often extremely vague.
Popular examples
• “Illegal intervention”
• “Device does not meet warranty conditions”
• “There are signs of repair”
⚠️ But no pictures or detailed technical descriptions are included.
This creates the feeling that the user is completely at a disadvantage
DISTINGUISH BETWEEN VN/A MACHINERY AND HANDBOOK GOODS
Apple currently applies very different policies.
Product Type Invoice Request Support Level
iPhone VN/A No invoice required from April 1, 2023 Best support
US iPhone LL/A Need original invoice High rejection rate
iPhone Singapore ZP/A Need to verify origin More difficult than VN/A
Portable MacBook Almost always requires strict Inspection documents
Machine accessories Very difficult to maintain Warranty Easy to be rejected
Some special models such as the physical Hong Kong dual SIM version also face barriers to replacement parts in Vietnam.
Then the user must send the warranty back to the country of origin
THE BIGGEST PARADOX OF THE VIETNAM APPLE MARKET
Vietnamese people are buying iPhones at extremely attractive prices.
Prices actually decrease at various times
Products Popular prices
iPhone flagship is about +22 to 25 million VND
MacBook Air M-series reduced by tens of millions of VND
AirPods Pro is deeply discounted during the sale
Apple Watch heavily subsidized at the end of the quarter
But in return
• Warranty process is more stringent
• Users are required to keep documents more carefully
• MachineThere are signs of repair that are extremely difficult to accept
• Apple increasingly prioritizes hardware authentication over “customer trust”
CONCLUSION
The phenomenon of "Apple is cheap but has a difficult warranty" in Vietnam is not a plot to cut after-sales benefits.
That was the consequence of two wars taking place in parallel
• Bloody price war between retailers
• Apple's global fight against warranty fraud
The end user becomes the party most directly affected
Buying a cheaper iPhone in the world is not necessarily a complete victory if even a small error can cause the device to be denied warranty for non-transparent reasons.
The biggest question now is whether Apple is overprotecting the system to the point of undermining the trust of loyal users in Vietnam.
