If DJI really causes Insta360 to be banned from sale in the US, will the pocket camera market return to the era when DJI alone dominated and users have to accept fewer options?
The handheld vlogging camera market is witnessing one of the biggest legal battles in recent years when DJI and Insta360 officially went head-to-head in the US. This is no longer a normal product competition but has become a patent war with the ability to affect billions of dollars in sales as well as the future of the entire pocket anti-shake camera segment.
On June 10, 2026, Insta360 launched Luna Ultra, a high-end gimbal camera model developed in cooperation with Leica. The product quickly attracted attention when possessing the ability to record 8K video, slow motion 4K 120fps, detachable OLED screen and new generation anti-shake system.
On the day of launch, DJI suddenly filed two lawsuits at the Federal District Court of East Texas, USA.
DJI believes that the Luna Ultra line violates many design and technology patents related to its famous Osmo Pocket line.
DJI requested
✅ Banning the sale of Luna Ultra in the US
✅ Request compensation for damages
✅ Apply a permanent ban if you win the case

However, Insta360 did not give in.
Just two days later, on June 12, 2026, Insta360 counterattacked with two opposite lawsuits against DJI.
According to the filing, Insta360 accused DJI of violating up to five of its technology patents.
The technologies mentioned include:
Smart anti-vibration
Directional control
Stabilize camera movements
Display Telemetry data
Panorama video stabilization
It is worth noting that Insta360 believes that these technologies are appearing on a series of DJI products.

Insta360 founder JK Liu made a tough statement.
He said Luna Ultra is the result of research lasting since 2020, inherited from the ONE R, Link Series and Flow Gimbal products.
According to JK Liu, Luna Ultra's success does not come from copying competitors but from a years-long independent research process.
More notably, he also hinted that DJI filing a lawsuit on the day Luna Ultra launched showed that the company was worried about a new competitor with extremely strong competition.
Luna Ultra sales pressure DJI?
Initial information shows that Luna Ultra costs approx
20,000,000 VND
Productsquickly reached the best-selling group on Amazon US in the camcorder category after only the first day of sale.
Price illustration
DJI Osmo Pocket 3 is about 15,000,000 VND
Insta360 Luna Ultra is about 20,000,000 VND
The difference of more than 5,000,000 VND shows that Insta360 is positioning the product in a more high-end segment, targeting professional content creation groups.
Who has the advantage?
DJI Insta360 element
Gimbal camera market share Very strong Growing rapidly
Product ecosystem Wide Medium
Legal experience Cao Cao
Recent Growth Stable Very Strong
Design innovation Good Very strong
What makes the technology world especially concerned is that this is not the first time the two companies have clashed over patents. Previously, DJI and Insta360 had many similar disputes in China.
The fact that the two brought the fight to the US, especially in Texas, a place famous for large-scale intellectual property lawsuits, shows the seriousness of this confrontation.
If DJI wins the lawsuit, Luna Ultra may be restricted or banned from sale in the US.
On the contrary, if Insta360 proves that DJI infringes its patent, the company could create an unprecedented reversal in the anti-shake camera industry.
One thing is certain: the end users will be the ones directly affected. This battle will not only decide who has the better technology, but will also decide who will lead the global vlogging camera market for years to come.
In your opinion, is DJI protecting its technological innovation or trying to prevent an emerging competitor?too fast?
