Is Xiaomi ahead of Samsung and other Android brands thanks to priority in the latest memory technology, or is this just a temporary advantage before the year-end flagship race?
According to information from Herald Korea, SK Hynix is preparing to enter the mass production phase of LPDDR6 memory and Xiaomi is said to be the first customer to receive the first batch of flagship smartphones. If this information is accurate, the Xiaomi 18 series could become the first commercial devices in the world to use the LPDDR6 RAM standard.
LPDDR6 is a new generation of mobile memory replacing LPDDR5X, developed to increase data transfer speed, reduce power consumption and improve AI processing, camera, gaming and multitasking performance. SK Hynix said the product is manufactured on the 6th generation 10 nm process, and is expected to begin mass production and delivery later this year.
The fact that Xiaomi is given priority in receiving supplies is not too surprising. The two companies have been cooperating since 2013, and Xiaomi is one of SK Hynix's major customers in the field of mobile memory. From LPDDR3 to LPDDR5X, many Xiaomi phone models use SK Hynix memory chips.
In a context where memory prices are still volatile and global supply is not completely stable, having a guaranteed source of LPDDR6 could bring a significant advantage to Xiaomi. The company will have many opportunitiesOptimize flagship performance, while reducing supply chain pressure compared to some other manufacturers.

If Xiaomi implements LPDDR6 on Xiaomi 18, it could be the first Android brand to commercialize this technology before major competitors like Samsung, OPPO, vivo and HONOR. However, up to now, both Xiaomi and SK Hynix have not officially confirmed this information.
The appearance of LPDDR6 will also create a premise for new generation processing platforms from Qualcomm and MediaTek to exploit larger memory bandwidth, especially in AI tasks generated right on the device, ultra-high resolution video recording and real-time graphics processing.
