Will a family SUV with a range of more than 1,700 km and a flexible interior compartment create a new trend in the electric vehicle market, or is a pure electric car still a more attractive choice?

On July 30, 2026, Xiaomi officially introduced the Xiaomi SkyNomad Series SUV line and the Xiaomi Kunlun platform during its technology announcement event in China. This is Xiaomi's first EREV vehicle line, marking an expansion from pure electric sedans and SUVs to the large family SUV segment.

According to Xiaomi, SkyNomad is developed on a completely new Kunlun architecture, focusing on three elements including flexible space, EREV powertrain and comprehensive safety system. Two versions are introduced:

Version Number of seats Price in China Approximate conversion
SkyNomad N70 Max 5 259,900 Yuan About 950 million VND
SkyNomad N90 Max 7 299,900 Yuan About 1.1 billion VND

The conversion rate is for reference only at the current exchange rate, excluding taxes and import costs.

The highlight of SkyNomad lies in its family-oriented design. Xiaomi says the interior compartment has a flat floor, many flexible seat configurations and can be converted into a work, rest or living space. On the N90 Max version, the front row of seats can rotate 180 degrees to create space opposite the second row of seats, while providing many conveniences.Benefits such as folding tables and relaxing chairs are also included.

Regarding the powertrain, SkyNomad uses EREV technology. The vehicle is driven by an electric motor, while the 1.5L turbocharged gasoline engine mainly plays the role of generating electricity to charge the battery or maintain power for the system. This is not a traditional hybrid car, nor is it a pure electric car.

Xiaomi's entry into the EREV SUV segment shows that the company not only focuses on pure electric vehicles but also targets the group of customers who need the ability to travel long distances while still taking advantage of operating with electric motors. This is also a segment with strong competition in China with many brands such as Li Auto, Aito, BYD, Denza, Voyah, Deepal, Lynk & Co and Zeekr.

According to Xiaomi, the company has opened reservations in China after the announcement event on July 30, 2026 and is expected to start delivering the car in September 2026.
