Is a nearly 8,000 mAh battery and 6 years of security updates enough to help POCO M8x 5G overcome the limitation of HD Plus screen and RAM capacity of only 4 GB?
On August 21, 2026, POCO officially introduced POCO M8x 5G in India, targeting the group of users who need 5G phones with long battery life, large screens and long software life cycles. The product was also announced by POCO as the first smartphone in the Indian market to use Qualcomm's Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 platform.
1. Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 first appeared on smartphones in India
Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 is manufactured on a 4 nm process, using an eight-core CPU with two Cortex-A78 cores reaching a maximum clock speed of 2.4 GHz and six Cortex-A55 cores reaching 2.0 GHz, accompanied by an Adreno 613 GPU.
According to data released by POCO, the new platform can increase app opening speed by a maximum of 43 percent. This is the manufacturer's claim and actual performance still needs to be verified by independent reviews.
The device uses LPDDR4X RAM with two options of 4 GB or 6 GB, 128 GB UFS 2.2 memory and microSD card support. The 6 GB version can be expanded by 6 GB of virtual RAM, bringing the total capacity displayed by the system to 12 GB. Virtual RAM uses part of the internal memory so it cannot completely replace physical RAM.
The heat dissipation system includes a graphite sheet with an area of 12,439 mm², a copper layer of 1,924 mm² and thermal paste.3.5 W efficiency to maintain stability when the device operates for long periods of time.
2. The 7,900 mAh battery becomes the biggest highlight
POCO M8x 5G is equipped with a 7,900 mAh battery, supports 45 W wired fast charging and 22.5 W wired reverse charging. POCO claims the device can operate for up to three days under normal usage conditions.
Battery life figures announced by the company include approximately 35 hours of social media use, 13 hours of GPS navigation, 64 hours of music listening or up to 27 days of messaging app use under POCO's testing conditions. Actual results may vary depending on usage intensity, signal quality, screen brightness and background applications.
The large battery capacity makes the body 8.8 mm thick and weighs 232 g. This is a notable trade-off for users who prioritize thin and light devices.
3. 120 Hz screen but only HD Plus resolution
The device uses a 6.9-inch LCD screen, 1,600 x 720 pixel resolution, 120 Hz scan frequency and 240 Hz touch sampling rate. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i, supports Wet Touch 2.0 and has a maximum published brightness of 825 nits.
The 120 Hz refresh rate makes scrolling and transitions smoother, but the HD Plus resolution on the 6.9-inch size creates a low pixel density. This can be a noticeable limitation when reading small text, viewing detailed images, or playing high-resolution content.
The device holds three TÜV Rheinland certifications related to blue light reduction, flicker limitation and circadian rhythm support. The entertainment system also has stereo speakers and Hi-R soundes and maximum volume increase mode of 300 percent.
4. 50 MP camera and Full HD recording ability
The main rear camera has 50 MP resolution, f/1.8 aperture, supports two-time zoom by cropping directly on the sensor and Full HD video recording at 30 frames per second. The device also has an auxiliary sensor, while the front camera reaches 8 MP, f/2.0 aperture and Full HD video recording.
Information from POCO focuses on the 50 MP main camera but does not show that this is a model that prioritizes photography capabilities. There is no official information about optical image stabilization, ultra-wide-angle camera or 4K video recording.
5. Android 16 and long-term update commitment
POCO M8x 5G comes pre-installed with Xiaomi HyperOS 3 based on Android 16. POCO is committed to providing four generations of Android upgrades and six years of security updates.
This is a notable support policy in the popular segment, helping to extend the safe usage time of the device. However, the company has not announced a specific deployment schedule for each future upgrade.
The device supports 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.1, USB Type-C port, side fingerprint sensor, 3.5mm headphone port, infrared and two stereo speakers. IP64 rating helps protect against dust and splashes of water, but is not suitable for immersing the device in water.
