Is a phone that weighs more than 700 grams but can replace a thermal camera, projector and distance measuring device really worth more than a regular high-end smartphone?
8849, the rugged equipment brand of Unihertz, has announced the TANK 5 Pro aimed at technicians, rescue teams, outdoor workers and users who need specialized equipment. The company's promotional materials confirm the pre-order program begins on August 20, 2026.
The biggest difference is that the FLIR Lepton 3.1R module has a thermal resolution of 160×120 pixels and a super wide viewing angle of 95 degrees. The system supports non-contact temperature measurement, temperature sensitivity below 0.05 degrees Celsius with two measurement ranges from minus 10 to 140 degrees Celsius and from minus 10 to 400 degrees Celsius.
The MyFLIR Pro application integrates MSX technology to help overlay regular image details onto thermal images, while Vivid-IR supports increased clarity. According to 8849, the system can serve to check electrical cabinets, detect overheating points, survey heat loss in buildings, check HVAC systems and support observation in rescue operations. These are usage situations announced by the manufacturer, actual effectiveness depends on operating conditions.
The integrated DLP projector achieves a resolution of 2048 × 1080 pixels, a brightness of 220 lumens, a laser focus range of 0.5 to 4 meters and supports plus or minus 45 degrees of distortion correction. The laser module can also measure distance and areach and volume within a maximum range of 4 meters.

TANK 5 Pro creates a very specific segment by combining a durable smartphone, FLIR thermal camera, DLP projector and laser measuring device. In return, the thickness of 33.8 mm and weight of 715 grams make the product difficult to fit for common daily use. The machine's greatest value lies in its ability to merge multiple toolsspecializes in a single device, instead of competing directly with thin and light flagship phones.
